Tom Williams & The Boat - Radio One Session Tonight!!

Author: Jade - Categories: 2008 Roundup, Artists, Gigs, Mp3, News - Tags: ,

Make a date with Radio One tonight at 9pm (UK) and I promise you will not be disappointed.

Tonight is the night that we will finally hear the Maida Vale session recorded by Tom Williams And The Boat last month. This comes on the same day that the band release new single ‘Doing My Best’ as a free download.

This band NEVER fail to impress me, ‘Doing My Best’ is yet another brilliant song and shows further progression from them. It comes from their forthcoming ‘concept’ EP due out in January 09. According to Tom ‘this song is the climax of the narrative, where everything kicks off’.

We’ll have more on the EP in the coming months.

You can listen to ‘Doing My Best’ as well as ‘Train Station Car Park’, ‘Wouldn’t Women Be Sweet’ and ‘Got Fuel’ tonight on Huw Stephens show at 9pm on Radio One.

If you’ve miss it, you can get it for up to seven days on the iPlayer.

My Radio Show Last Night

Author: Ashley - Categories: Blurb, Mp3 - Tags: , , , , ,

Firstly, good morning if your viewing this on hypem.com! Yesterday the blog aggregator accepted our site onto their list meaning that even more people can now enjoy our reviews and music (for sampling purposes of course).

Secondly, the show worked quite well last night. Here are some highlights:

Tom Williams & The Boat - Bumble Bee.mp3 (from the Got Fuel EP, www.wireboatrecordings.co.uk)
Iglu & Hartley - Jump Out Of Your Car.mp3
Little Boots - Meddle.mp3

We found out that producer Jacob would “go gay” and choose Yannis Philippakis (Foals) if he had to fall in love with someone from his iTunes. You’d think, since she’s posted on his bedroom wall, that he’d choose Hayley Williams from Paramore.

There were “bugs” in the system - Spongebob, Homer & Simon Cowell were found to be lurking between songs.

Catch the whole thing every Sunday night from 7pm (GMT) @ www.mtjr.co.uk.

Lost Posts & Tom Williams - My Week

Author: Ashley - Categories: Gigs, Mp3 - Tags: , , , ,

This week has been a busy. My first week back in the office for two whole weeks. Reassuringly, nothing changed. Although, I did find out that if a writer on likesounds.com adds something as “Pending Review” it doesnt show up on my screen. Unfortunately I missed several unpublished articles.

Matt on Zoo Thousand- Matt comes up with reasons why the Zoo8 festival wasn’t a complete failure.

Rae on The Hop Farm Festival- Rae tells how Laura Marling & Co play through our typical British weather.

tom-williams-got-fuelJade & I went on a road trip to see Tom Williams & The Boat play Proud Galleries/ Stables Market in Camden. Mixing our knowledge of shortcuts (zilch) with London’s Sunday traffic (packed) and the sheer size of the Stables Market (huge) we actually managed to miss the entire set. Despite the band waiting half an hour before they played just for us.

I still feel bad! I learnt two things: 1) Proud Galleries is on the right as you go into the market and 2) turn left for delicious Chinese food. We made up for missing TW&TB by seeing their set at the BBC Introducing gig at the Zebra Bar in Maidstone on Thursday evening.

TW&TB played a mix of new and slightly less new with tracks from the forthcoming EP Got Fuel filling most of the set. ‘The Bat’ with its slow-fast, soft-heavy theme rocketed out from the band who seem to relish every single note they play. The crowd lap it up and as Tom announces ‘My Chainsaw’ they almost get rowdy for what seems the other bands choice of song. ‘Train Station Car Park’ prompts a few veins to bulge from guitarist Ant’s head as he sings backing vocals.

The Got Fuel EP is out on the 4th August and can be pre-ordered at www.wireboatrecordings.co.uk.

What Im listening to at the moment

Heres what Im listening to at the moment…

The Last Shadow Puppets albumThe Last Shadow Puppets - The Age Of The Understatement When you bring together two minds of two of the best indie/rock bands around at the moment, all you’re going to get is pure genius.
Miles Kane (The Rascals) and Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys) just fit together.
I’ve seen Miles perform Plastic Tramp with Arctic Monkeys before and I have to say he was almost part of the band. This album is literally as you would imagine if you merged both Arctic Monkeys and The Rascals tracks together, a definite must have.
If you like The Last Shadow Puppets then also download Plastic Tramp by Arctic Monkeys and Out Of Dreams by The Rascals.
Best Tracks The Age Of The Understatement & Separate And Ever Deadly

Interview: Ashley meets Tom Williams

Author: Ashley - Categories: Mp3 - Tags: , , ,

Tom Williams Ashley R TantonTom Williams draws musical influences from such a wide array of musicians, as Jade& I found out when we went to meet him this Tuesday.

Tom describes recently buying Born in the USA, one of three Bruce Springsteen albums his mum would play continuously during his childhood, and realising that subconsciously he knew all the words. “I then realised that in a lot of the songs Id taken the catchiest bits, I’ve put in songs not knowing it. It becomes your alphabet”.

Williams relishes the chance to talk about 15 year old singer/songwriter Poppy, to whom he taught guitar and is one half of Poppy& Tom. “I put a bulletin on myspace, needed to earn a bit more money, Poppy replied” he says.

April [snow] showers, no interviews today!

Author: Ashley - Categories: Blurb - Tags:

Yes you do look stupid, AshleyThe diary for today says “interview TW, Tonbridge”. Id pretty much gotten over the nerves of doing my first interview but I was looking forward to it none the less. Then came the familiar beep beep from my phone.

“You guys gonna be ok getting here in the snow?” Snow? This was news to me! At my second home in Hythe it was bright sunshine. 40 miles up the road there was a blizzard. The interview wasn’t to be.

If you want to know who the exclusive interview was with, you will have to listen to the show tonight from 7pm (link here.)

Look at some pictures from my day, here!
