If you are one of our many new visitors, chances are you don’t know about the likesounds.com love for Tunbridge Wells band Tom Williams & The Boat.

They are a band that in the year since they’ve formed have written and recorded 3 EP’s, the latest being Got Fuel, totalling 21 tracks. They’ve also played the biggest free festival, BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Maidstone. And, as if that’s not enough, they’ve recently recorded a session for Huw Stephens at the legendary Maida Vale Studio’s in London.

And despite singer/songwriter Tom’s impending University course the band are still finding the time to write and record even more new material. The band are working on a ‘concept record’ which will be ready early next year.

Got Fuel is the third EP from the band this year which in total gives us 21 songs that the band have written, recorded & mastered in the past 12 months which in itself is a huge triumph!

I don’t know too many bands that can come up with that much (good) material in that amount of time!

The band are also gigging this Thursday (14th August) at the Tunbridge Wells Forum with Canadian band Tokyo Police Club.

The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age Of The Understatement When you bring together two minds of two of the best indie/rock bands around at the moment, all you’re going to get is pure genius.
Miles Kane (The Rascals) and Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys) just fit together.
I’ve seen Miles perform Plastic Tramp with Arctic Monkeys before and I have to say he was almost part of the band. This album is literally as you would imagine if you merged both Arctic Monkeys and The Rascals tracks together, a definite must have.

Tom Williams draws musical influences from such a wide array of musicians, as Jade& I found out when we went to meet him this Tuesday.

Tom describes recently buying Born in the USA, one of three Bruce Springsteen albums his mum would play continuously during his childhood, and realising that subconsciously he knew all the words. “I then realised that in a lot of the songs Id taken the catchiest bits, I’ve put in songs not knowing it. It becomes your alphabet”.

Williams relishes the chance to talk about 15 year old singer/songwriter Poppy, to whom he taught guitar and is one half of Poppy& Tom. “I put a bulletin on myspace, needed to earn a bit more money, Poppy replied” he says.

Who would have thought it? A reality TV show that has actually made success! Envy and Other Sins, winners of T4 Mobile Act Unsigned bring us their debut single, Highness. Brilliant.

To be honest, I didn’t hold much hope of the show having that much luck in finding some pure talent, I had them wrong. I watched and was surprised when Envy and Other Sins hit the stage. How had this band been kept away from the public for that long! I really do love this song and cant wait for the album to be released to see what else they have in store for all of their eager fans.

I honestly couldn’t compare them to any other band. They have their own unique sound which is great. They fit into their own category, not the wannabe pile.

Some true talent with true, positive prospects. I would recommend them to anyone that appreciates good music, if not for the album, at least for this song.
