Rumble Strips - Back To Black (Amy Winehouse)

This is actually a 2007 cover, however its just so damn good that its made the list.
Plus the rest of the world have just discovered this cover since Charlie (Rumble Strips) performed it with Mark Ronson at Glastonbury this year.
Such an amazing take on an amazing song, Rumble Strips really excel themselves using so much energy with this cover.

Kate Nash - I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance (Black Kids)

I was given this months before Black Kids actually emerged onto the mainstream music scene and loved it.
Kate Nash had found this band she loved and got them to tour with her on her latest UK & EU tour, since then their careers have just sky rocketed!
Personally i prefer this to the original but see what you think..

Adele - Last Nite (The Strokes)

The Strokes in my books are one of the greatest bands ever; and so when one of the best discovered talents of 2008 covered a classic Strokes song it was only ever going to be great. Even though Adele herself wasn’t pleased with how she performed the track and re-recorded it moments after!

Guillemots - Black & Gold (Sam Sparro)

If you hadn’t heard Sam Sparro’s Black & Gold before Guillemots covered it then you’d swear it was their own song.
Fyfe just seems to be able to wrap his voice around anything and turn it into something great. Guillemots use such a wide range of instruments that when used just make any song their own.

The Last Shadow Puppets - S.O.S (Rihanna)

Turner & Kane just seem to do no wrong really. Their comical rendition of Rihanna’s sexy S.O.S is just a song you have to have in your collection whether your a fan or not!

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly - D.A.N.C.E (Justice)

We saw Sam & Mikey perform this on a bus earlier this year to about 30 fans; and even packed in downstairs with people sitting on each others laps and making room for Sam’s guitar case to be used as percussion by a fan there were still a few of us moving to the rhythm!

Tom blog 001 - Scarlett Johansson - Anywhere I Lay My Head

Scarlett Johansson Album CoverHello everyone,

This is it, my first post on likesounds.com! Thanks very much Ashley for inviting me, I think this’ll be fun, I guess I talk here, talk about records mostly.

The record I’ve been listening to today is Scarlett Johansson’s album, it’s really actually very good! It comprises almost totally of Tom Waits songs, and has contributions on two tracks by the thin white duke himself, David Bowie, so she couldn’t really muck up could she! I first checked it out after seeing that everyone’s favourite rag of fickle scene journalism the nme had given it a whopping EIGHT out of ten, so I gave it a listen. It’s just clocking round to the last song now and I’m definitely going to let it go back round to track one again.
