Post-libertines indie with a tinge of punk resulted in notable success for Hats Off To The Buskers, The View’s Mercury nominated debut. Now two years on the band have a new album for us.
Which Bitch sees The View move in a few surprising and unexpected directions. Piano, strings and even horns pop in and out of this record. It feels more personal and certainly less pushed that their debut. This couldn’t be any clearer than in Covers with the band, joined by Paolo Nutini, seemingly toying with new ideas and sounds.
Unexpected and Distant Doubloon are drenched in strings and the vocal smacks of the Celtic desperation that we commonly identify with artists heading from this corner of the planet.
5Rebbeccas, Shock Horror and Temptation Dice are typical View with their fleeting riffs and sharp vocals.
Despite the bands drunken fights, hangovers and hedonism Which Bitch? is a well crafted and imaginative record that puts The View at the top of my see list again this year.
