Arctic Monkeys – Crying Lightning
07.07.09 Domino
£0.79 iTunes (no DRM)

Crying Lightning is the long awaited new single from forthcoming album Humbug (24.08.09). We were promised a much darker sound, some said dark like Brianstorm, but for me this single is most like the three other songs off the Teddy Picker EP (Nettles, Death Ramps & Bad Woman). Alex Turner’s voice meanders around in creepily low depths until he reaches the chorus where upon it picks up and overshadows the music behind it. I give this five/five and can’t wait to get my hands on the album.

I actually thought they’d adopted some tones from The Horrors. Listen to their first album, then this…

Not a fan at all, maybe it’ll grow on me. Just seems a bit too dark for them

this tracks sounds a lot like The Coral – as several Arctic Monkeys songs have in the past. Perhaps it’ll grow on me, but this isn’t the kind of thing I tend to like.
