The big winners (I think)... Two Door Cinema Club
The BBC’s Sound of 2010 full list was revealed today. The poll is in it’s eighth year and continues to pour hype on everyone that will do well, musically, in 2010. BBC Sound Of 2009 acted like a gallon of petrol poured on an already inflamed Little Boots prompting her to release an eponymous début album with lightning speed.
Little Boots led the likes of White Lies, La Roux, Florence and Lady Gaga all of which went on to have superb 2009′s.
This year my top three was 66% easy – Marina and the Diamonds and Two Door Cinema Club were guaranteed to be on my voting form. The third act however was tricky. I had to take advice from my peers. In the end it came down to Tom Williams telling me, after his band supported Girls, just how brilliant they are. Jade had already suggested Girls so throw in a testimonial from Tom and you can’t really ignore it.
So my list was complete: Marina, TDCC and Girls.
I’m reminded about my interview with Marina at a festival in the summer when she rejoiced that she felt no real pressure having been bypassed by the Sound Of… poll a few months earlier. Hopefully Marina we’re still on your Christmas card list.
The top 3 will be revealed week commencing January 4th. My prediction is 1. Marina 2. TDCC 3. The Drums.
I have to say, this year really isn’t as clean cut as last year. It’s not obvious immediately who will be big. Creating the poll for 2009 was far simpler than it was for 2010. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out.
