Music Festivals – Local or National

Man climbing over railings in Cardiff. Photographer unknown
The highlight of my week so far was opening up the Vice Blog email today to see whats been going on in the slightly abnormal section of society. The gist of it is about how mental the Welsh are when they’ve ad’ a few. Click the link above and enjoy the pictures taken from various nights out in Cardiff then scroll down to the comments and open up the link and do the same again. That’s the explanation of my choice of image. Done.
On Monday, tickets went on sale for the Reading and Leeds festivals. For six solid hours I sat with two computers and endless tabs running whilst at the same time pounding the redial button on my phone. Six hours. It was obviously not meant to be.
From now on I wont even entertain the idea of getting a ticket to any big festivals. Now, it’s local. So what are my options? Redlist Live has sadly had to postpone their festival, due to take place this summer near Hythe, citing financial difficulties. This leaves a few reachable alternatives:
Love Box
Victoria Park, London. 18th & 19th July
£42.50 Day / £75.00 Weekend
Duran Duran, Florence & The Machine, Friendly Fires and Groove Armada to name just a few.
For: Good line up. Against: It’s barely local (60 minute drive from likesounds HQ).
Hop Farm Festival
The Hop Farm, Paddock Wood. 3rd, 4th & 5th July
TBA
No official lineup yet however with Vince Power running the show I’m certain (wink wink) I don’t see how it can fail.
For: 40 minute drive, big backing. Against: ?
Lounge On The Farm
Merton Farm, Canterbury. 10th, 11th & 12th July
£85.00 3-day ticket
LOTF are still adding artists to the line that so far includes Dan le Sac & Scroobius Pip, Wave Pictures and The Invisible.
For: 20 minute drive, good price for 3 days, a nice cosy gig. Against: Nope can’t think of any.
Sellinge Music Festival
Hope Farm, Sellinge (nr Ashford). 5th, 6th, 7th June.
£35.00 Day / £55 Weekend.
Young Knives, Marina & The Diamonds, The Holloways, Emmy The Great and Tom Williams & The Boat.
For: Absolutely cracking line up. This festival has everything you (I) need. Good price and a major indie lineup (and just 10 minutes from my house). I’m there!

Worthy of a comment just for the picture. Sellinge is the place to be clearly!
Good comment?
